Coupling of pretreatment and pyrolysis improving the production of levoglucosan from corncob

Influence of organic biphasic pretreatment on levoglucosan (LG) yield from biomass pyrolysis was investigated with dilute sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide as comparison, simultaneously, the mechanism explored in depth. It found that monophasic (water) conditions, pretreatment, LG all increase largely (from untreated 28% to treated 60–85%) due removal hemicellulose or lignin. Phenoxyethanol introduced construct a system, it showed corncob followed by at 450 °C increased 91% limited formation by-products, especially acids, ketones, esters. In addition, can easily realize efficient recovery removed (75%) lignin (49%). The different yields implied removing is more effective increasing than hemicellulose. These findings provide instruction for highly selective production anhydrous sugars waste.
